Wine Description for Barolo Mosconi DOCG 2021 1500ml Magnum by Chiara Boschis – E.Pira & Figli

Colour & Appearance
Deep, intense cherry red with remarkable density – this Barolo displays itself unusually concentrated and barely transparent in the glass. The magnum bottle underscores the visual presence of this extraordinary vintage.
Nose
Aromatically dark and multi-layered: Cassis, blackberries and blueberries dominate initially, before classic Nebbiolo notes of lavender, violets and leather unfold. These are joined by hung meat, undergrowth, liquorice, tobacco and a refreshing mint note – an aromatic kaleidoscope of impressive complexity.
Palate
Juicy, firm and lively, the Mosconi presents itself on the palate. The dark fruit carries notes of tobacco, spices and earthy accents. Remarkable is the fine tannin grain, which despite enormous substance never comes across as intrusive. The wine possesses considerable pressure, depth and power, yet remains elegant with a delicate floral perfume. The structural clarity is exemplary.
Finish
Long, gripping and carried by fine tannin structure. The mineral notes of the terroir linger, accompanied by dark fruits and spicy accents.
Terroir & Origin
From the oldest parcels of the Mosconi vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba, at approximately 400 metres elevation. The calcareous clay marl with grey colouration alternates with silica-rich sandstones. Calcium carbonate and iron lend the soil a warmer, slightly pinkish hue in places – ideal conditions for age-worthy Barolos with structure and depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo in the Michet and Lampia variants. Hand-harvested in early October, fermentation in rotating tanks with 14 days of skin contact, malolactic fermentation in stainless steel. Two years of ageing in French oak casks and barriques – classic vinification that gives space to the fruit and terroir.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Brasato al Barolo, Ossobuco alla Milanese, truffle risotto, aged Parmigiano Reggiano, game dishes with dark sauces or braised beef fillet.
Special Features
The magnum bottle guarantees optimal ageing conditions for the next 15-20 years. A Barolo by Chiara Boschis, who leads the traditional winery E. Pira & Figli with precision and respect for the terroir.
