Colour & Appearance

Deep glowing cherry red with even colouration and characteristically lighter rim – classic for Nebbiolo from Piedmont.

Nose

An aromatic kaleidoscope oscillating between red and dark fruit notes. Sour cherry dominates, flanked by redcurrant, raspberry, plum and blackberry. These are joined by rosehip and barberry. The earthy component of beetroot lends depth, whilst juniper, black pepper, cinnamon and clove provide impressive spice. Forest notes of pine cone, fir needles and undergrowth merge with hints of freshly ground coffee, cigar box and light tobacco leaves.

Palate

Pride and elegance in perfection. The wine flows gently and smoothly, initially displaying its fine fruit with restraint before revealing its true strengths: pronounced minerality, finest tannins and delicately structured acidity in perfect harmony. Never loud, never coarse – always marked by noble restraint. The impressive substance and length convince on all fronts.

Finish

Seemingly endless. The multifaceted aromatic world characterises the aftertaste with remarkable persistence and captivates the palate.

Terroir & Origin

The single vineyard site Roncaglie Masseria lies in the municipality of Barbaresco at 280 metres altitude. The south-west facing vineyards stand on limestone and clay – ideal conditions for Nebbiolo. The vines average 35 years old and were harvested on 29 September 2020.

Grape Variety & Vinification

Pure Nebbiolo, gently pressed and fermented in steel tank with cold maceration. The process lasts approximately one month with permanent punching down of the cap. Malolactic fermentation takes place in oak barrels. Maturation extends over nearly 30 months in large oak barrels and additionally in barriques. Unfiltered bottling for optimal bottle development. The magnum bottle promises particularly harmonious evolution.

Food Pairing Suggestions

Roasted venison loin with preserved cherries, Presa Ibérica from the grill with orange fennel, Red wine risotto with roasted hazelnuts and Pecorino. Also excellent with Brasato al Barolo or aged hard cheeses.
