Wine Description for Barolo DOCG Lazzarito 2021 1500ml Magnum by Vietti

Colour & Appearance
Deep cherry to garnet red with the characteristic crystalline clarity that distinguishes Nebbiolo – a visual promise of elegance and depth.
Nose
This Lazzarito displays itself in its youth as typical for Serralunga: unapproachable and closed. The fruit holds back, instead dominated by stems, undergrowth, damp earth and iron-rich stone. Added to this are notes of coal, violet flowers and a delicate hint of blue-toned fruit – a wine that demands patience.
Palate
On the palate, the true nature of this Barolo reveals itself: A clear, driving acidity structures the wine with surgical precision. Impressive firmness meets a gentle warmth in the fruit, whilst the ripeness goes into depth and appears densely woven. The tannin shows itself firm and youthful, the wine is saline-mineral with enormous energy and magnificent length.
Finish
Long, precise and characterised by stony minerality – the acidity carries through to the end and leaves a lasting impression of terroir expression and ageing potential.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the amphitheatre-shaped single vineyard site Lazzarito in Serralunga d’Alba, one of Barolo’s most renowned crus. The south-westerly exposure and the calcareous and clay-rich soils at 260 to 390 metres elevation shape the powerful, structured character. The average 42-year-old vines deliver concentrated, expressive fruit.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Nebbiolo, vinified with three to four days of cold maceration and a proportion of 20 to 25 per cent whole berries. The approximately three-week maceration in stainless steel was carried out exclusively by submerging the cap. The malolactic fermentation took place in used barriques, with 24 months of ageing then in large wooden vessels – a classical, respectful vinification.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine for braised beef, Brasato al Barolo, game dishes or aged Parmigiano Reggiano. The magnum bottle predestines it for special occasions with multiple courses.
Special Features
The magnum bottle promises even more harmonious development and longer ageing potential. A Barolo for connoisseurs that deserves at least a decade of cellar ageing.
