Wine Description for Badischer Landwein Villages White 2021 by Forgeurac

Colour & Appearance
Deep, luminous gold in the glass – a Pinot Blanc that wears its four years on full lees without apology. This colour promises substance and maturity.
Nose
Juicy and intense, positively explosive: ripe pear and apple meet wine yeast and apple skin. With air contact, exotic notes of mango and kaffir lime unfold. An aromatic powerhouse that already shows hints of nuts, forest floor and wood smoke – harbingers of a promising evolution.
Palate
Juicy and vital at once. The lively acidity is carried by a dense texture, the structure is demanding, the grip palpable. Spice and salinity define the character – here the terroir speaks clearly. An honest, unadorned wine with personality.
Finish
Long, saline, with a pleasantly demanding aftertaste. The invigorating freshness remains present and invites another sip. No charming flatterer, but a wine that demands attention – and deserves it.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from two Baden vineyard sites: Rauenberg (Käsebrod) and Kappelwindeck (Rappenberg). Harvested late September 2021, bottled only in August 2025 – a wine that was given time.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pinot Blanc in pure form, but radically interpreted: whole-bunch pressing on basket press, spontaneous fermentation in used barriques, four years on full lees without bâtonnage. Unfiltered and without additives – natural wine in the best sense.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This wine demands intense cuisine: pan-fried turbot, calf sweetbreads, braised rabbit with mushrooms, mature Comté or Beaufort. Also Asian curries with coconut milk or grilled swordfish pair beautifully.
Special Characteristics
An uncompromising wine from Uwe Lange and Marco Pfliehinger (Forgeurac) that shows what Pinot Blanc is capable of when given time and freedom. No mainstream offering, but a character wine for lovers of authentic, unadorned wines.
