Wine Description for Auxey-Duresses Blanc AOC 2023 by Pierre & Louis Trapet

Character
Auxey-Duresses is one of the quiet discoveries of the Côte de Beaune – an appellation that often languishes in the shadow of its famous neighbours Meursault and Volnay, yet produces wines of genuine substance and characterful depth. The Blanc from Pierre & Louis Trapet exemplifies a style that prioritises precision and terroir expression over opulence – dry, clear and with the unmistakable sense of origin that the Trapet family also demonstrates in their red wines from northern Burgundy.
Terroir & Origin
The village of Auxey-Duresses lies in a side valley west of Meursault, where the Côte de Beaune gently folds its slope inward. The soils are characterised by calcareous subsoil with clay inclusions, which imparts a characteristic tension between minerality and richness to the white wines. The 2023 vintage was marked in Burgundy by warmth and abundant sunshine – a year that produced ripe, aromatically expressive wines, where careful hand-harvesting and vineyard selection proved decisive.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Chardonnay, as it finds perhaps its most elegant expression in the Côte de Beaune. The Trapets, renowned for their work in Gevrey-Chambertin and their commitment to biodynamic or natural viticulture, bring a craftsmanlike care that translates in the cellar into restrained oak handling and a focus on fruit and terroir expression. With 13.0% alcohol and dry vinification, the wine remains lean and approachable.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to classic Burgundian cuisine: Quiche Lorraine, Poulet à la crème or Calf’s sweetbreads harmonise beautifully with the structure of this wine. Equally recommended with grilled turbot, scallops in butter sauce or a mature Comté.
