Info

The Vinhao vines for this wine are located in the Lima sub-appellation within the Vinho Verde DOC. The harvest took place between 12 and 24 September 2009.

The mash is fermented in granite tanks. Tamping with feet ensures low pressure on the grape skins and pips. Pressing is followed by malolactic fermentation and subsequent yeast storage.

The degorgement followed after 67 months.

Color

Dense purple, long-lasting mousseux and finest perlage

Nose

The nose is lavishly portioned and fruity. Blackberries, blueberries and elderberries are all in evidence. Sweet cherries are in no way inferior to sour cherries and barberries. A hint of dried cranberry and beetroot provide earthy spice. Etheric is underpinned. This has a fresh and cooling effect. Underneath, a maritime, stony note builds up. This provides additional freshness and lightness. It shows sea spray and oyster shell at the same time. Enormously unusual because of its colouring.

Palate

On the palate, it hammers away. All expectations are exceeded. The fruit is concentrated in elegance and lightness. Dark without question, but marked by cool elements and accentuated again and again by acid peaks. The mousseux gives it texture without getting out of hand into creaminess. The carbonic acid shapes it immensely. Taut, cool and full of finesse. Its earthy and maritime side is fully revealed again in the finish.
