Wine Description for Riesling 2023 by Weiser-Künstler
- Colour & Appearance
- Silvery-gleaming straw yellow with pale to greenish reflections – a wine that already reveals its youthful freshness and vitality to the eye.
- Nose
- Here Riesling purism shows itself at its finest. The bouquet captivates with an elegant balance between herbs and fruit: nettle, lemon balm, coriander and mint lend the wine a refreshing herbal spiciness. The fruit aromas of lime, green apple and peach appear true to variety, yet never obtrusive. Particularly charming: the delicate vegetative notes of pea and fennel, which lend the wine complexity and depth.
- Palate
- With a slender 11% alcohol, this Riesling flows straight and invitingly across the tongue. The fruit and herbal aromas from the nose continue harmoniously, but are accompanied by a fine stony minerality – a clear fingerprint of the Moselle slate soil. The pleasantly calibrated acidity structure never feels aggressive, but rather juicy and invigorating. A light astringency provides grip and makes you reach for the next sip.
- Finish
- Medium-length and refreshing, with lingering minerality and citrus notes. The acidity and stony character build to a delicious, juicy finale.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come predominantly from the Trarbach side valley around the Schlossberg. The exposure varies between south-east and south-west – an ideal blend of morning and evening sun that gives the wine its balance between freshness and ripeness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, maturation partly in stainless steel, partly in used wooden barrels. After racking, the wine continues to mature exclusively in stainless steel. Uncompromisingly purist: no additives whatsoever. This minimalist intervention philosophy pays dividends in clarity and authenticity.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Oysters, scallops, pan-fried char, goat’s cheese, asparagus with herb vinaigrette, Thai salads or simply as an elegant aperitif.
- Special Features
- An estate wine that already bears the hallmark of Alexandra Künstler and Konstantin Weiser in the entry-level segment: finesse over fullness, precision over bombast. A prime example of modern, light-footed Moselle Riesling.
