Tasting Note
Colour/Appearance:
Radiant golden yellow.
Nose:
The 2021 Isteiner Gutedel reveals itself as exceptionally complex and multi-layered on the nose, alongside hazelnuts, almonds and wine yeast, aeration brings forth fruity notes of apple, citrus fruits, lemon zest and lemons tossed in salt from the glass. Aromas of light tobacco and vineyard peach and dried fruit hint at themselves but will only fully emerge with further ageing.
Palate:
What Gutedel is capable of, this wine demonstrates on the palate as well. Beyond its freshness and vibrancy at merely 11.5% vol., it is its chalky minerality that defines it. An exceptionally quaffable drop from a grape variety that reveals itself as multi-faceted and extraordinary, and continues to impress me time and again.
Food Pairing Recommendations
- Cheese puff pastry (vegetarian)
- Salmon and pike-perch roulade with mushroom-Gutedel sauce and wild rice
- Roasted duck with cinnamon pear, green peas and celeriac-potato fritters
