Wine description for Gevrey-Chambertin Cuvée “1859” 2022 1500ml Magnum by Trapet Père & Fils

Character
An aristocratic Pinot Noir of remarkable finesse and elegance. Jean-Louis Trapet shuns superficial opulence or overt power, choosing instead to focus on structure without heaviness, puristic purity and silky, fine-grained tannins. The cuvée presents an aristocratic polish, deep cool fruit and an unadulterated transparency of terroir, promising magnificent ageing potential over many years in the generous magnum format.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes hail from the renowned Gevrey-Chambertin appellation on the Côte de Nuits in Burgundy. The cuvée owes its name to the year 1859, when the Trapet family purchased their very first vineyard parcel, ‘en Dérée’. Farmed according to strict Demeter biodynamic guidelines, the soils reflect the historical heritage of one of the region’s most pioneering winemaking families.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Single-varietal Pinot Noir, vinified with minimal intervention and profound respect for the land. In line with Trapet’s philosophy—to guide rather than force—cellar work is carried out gently using gravity. Oak ageing for the Villages wines deliberately employs only a moderate proportion of new oak (around 20 to 25 per cent) so as not to mask the grape variety’s mineral profile. A moderate alcohol content of 12.5% ABV underlines the domaine’s classic, fresh style.
Food Pairings
This delicate Burgundy pairs wonderfully with classic dishes such as Bœuf Bourguignon, tender pheasant breast fillet, medium-rare rack of lamb or finely matured Époisses.
