Wine information

The Les Pieds Rôtis is a Chenin Blanc that essentially comes from a vineyard formerly produced under the Touraine appellation but now as Chinon AOP. The vineyard is located on the other side of the Vienne and is actually called Les Pieds Rôtis - the grilled Feet. It is a cru characterised by its terroir of gravel, fossil sponges, red clay and white limestone on a south-east facing slope. After whole cluster pressing, the Chenin Blanc was fermented spontaneously in wood and, after malolactic fermentation, aged for eleven months on the lees in perennial 400-litre barrels.

Nose

With the 2021s Les Pieds Rôtis Jean de Bonnaventure continues his very clear style that has become typical. It combines intensity and concentration with precision and juicy ripeness as well as finesse and elegance. The white Chenin smells of ripe yellow apples, of pears and quinces, apricots and grapefruits, which combine with some candied ginger, liquorice and a stony spiciness. One can also detect an elegant creamy note.

Palate

On the palate the 2021s Les Pieds Rôtis as an exceedingly juicy wine that presents itself as a very classic Chenin Blanc. The fruit appears juicy and ripe with a certain fullness and extract sweetness, which is kept in balance by the linear acidity that becomes more and more present towards the finish. The wine combines the fruit with hints of tobacco and some nougat. The body is also shaped not only by fruit and acidity, but also by a fine but prominent tannin. Overall, this is a very complete, powerful, dense and elegant wine.
