Wine Description for Sulzfelder Silvaner Alte Reben 2024 by Luckert – Zehnthof

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, shimmering golden yellow with lively green reflections – a wine that already promises intrigue in the glass.
Nose
The nose is precise and multi-layered: ripe mirabelle plum, peach and yellow plum meet the exotic depth of persimmon and a whisper of papaya. Invigorating notes of grapefruit and bergamot provide freshness and definition. Beneath lies a fine herbal bouquet – kaffir lime leaves, lemon balm and lemon thyme – lending the wine an almost ethereal elegance. Subtle hints of yeast and smoke give the nose depth and unmistakable Franconian earthiness.
Palate
Dry, linear and with impressive composure. The attack is taut, carried by fine-grained, invigorating acidity. The fruit deliberately recedes in favour of a vibrant mineral texture – stony, saline, with a chalky astringency that draws the wine into the depths. A slightly smoky, yeasty component lends the palate a cool, contemplative character.
Finish
Long and complex. In the aftertaste, cold smoke, yeast and a delicate note of butter brioche emerge – never sweet, always clear and earthy. The herbal aromas carry the freshness far and wide, underscoring the sovereign, mineral-herbal style of this wine.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the Sulzfelder vineyards on upper shell limestone – one of Franconia’s most distinctive soils, which gives the wine its characteristic salinity and minerality.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Pure Silvaner from vines aged 49 to 62 years, with a yield of merely around 45 hl/ha. Traditional fermentation with natural yeasts in wooden barrels. Bone-dry with only 1.9 g/l residual sugar and fresh acidity of 5.5 g/l.
Food Pairing Suggestions
An ideal companion to pike-perch with beurre blanc, asparagus with hollandaise sauce, calf sweetbreads or a classic Franconian schäuferla. Also an excellent choice with aged goat’s cheese or seafood.
Special Characteristics
A Silvaner with character and depth – shaped by old vines, artisanal care and one of Franconia’s finest shell limestone terroirs. Not a wine for quick consumption, but one that demands time and attention – and rewards it with extraordinary complexity.
