Wine Description for St. Laurent 2020 by Heinrich

Colour & Appearance
Luminous garnet red to purple red with a characteristic transparency that underscores the elegance of this Burgundy relative.
Nose
A fascinating aromatic profile that begins with earthy, almost smoky notes of tar and sloe. Behind these unfold mineral hints of crushed stone, accompanied by dark fruit – lingonberries and blackberries. Subtle nuances of smoked meat and yeast lend the bouquet additional complexity and depth.
Palate
Precise and tense, this St. Laurent presents itself on the palate. Sinewy and taut with a vibrant acidity structure carried by pronounced minerality. The fruit shows itself dark and crisp, complemented by herbs, sloes and juniper berries. Meaty notes merge with ethereal elements into an extraordinarily clear, juicy and mouth-watering taste experience. The cool expression and inner tension make this wine particularly special.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from both sides of Lake Neusiedl: from the Rosenberg vineyard site at the Leitha Mountains with mica schist soils, from the gravelly Parndorfer Platte, as well as from the more humus-rich Heideboden. This terroir diversity lends the wine its characteristic minerality and complexity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Hand-harvested in early September, spontaneous fermentation over three weeks in wooden fermentation vats and stainless steel. Slow pressing in the basket press, followed by 20 months ageing in wooden fermentation vats and used tonneaux. At just 11.5% alcohol, a remarkable example of elegance and drinkability.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Perfect with game dishes such as venison loin or wild boar ragout, braised beef, duck breast with lingonberries or aged hard cheese. The earthy notes harmonise beautifully with mushroom dishes and root vegetables.
Special Features
An extraordinarily low alcohol content for an Austrian St. Laurent, placing freshness and elegance above power. The three-week maceration period and extended ageing create a wine of remarkable precision and depth – pure Heinrich signature.
