Wine Description for Somni 2013 1500ml by Portal del Priorat
- Colour & Appearance
- A monumental, deep blackish-red, colour-dense and nearly opaque right to the rim of the glass.
- Nose
- This wine demands air to unfold its complexity. An explosive bouquet emerges of cassis liqueur, warm blueberry cake and elderberry syrup, underpinned by a fine spice of bay leaf, rosemary and wild sage. A hint of rooibos tea mingles with the masculine notes of dark tobacco and wood smoke, testament to the precise barrique ageing.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Somni presents itself surprisingly accessible and caressing. The massive fruit intensity is perfectly balanced by notes of fresh mocha, noble dark chocolate and earthy hints such as truffle and autumn leaves. Despite its 14.5% ABV, the elixir never feels heavy; the structure is characterised by an impressive power coupled with finesse.
- Finish
- The aftertaste is remarkably long, mineral and invigorating, lending the wine enormous drinkability.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A concentrated cuvée of Carignan and Syrah, which derives its depth from intensive barrique ageing. The fruit intensity of the 2013 vintage integrates the oak masterfully.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- Excellent with rabbit stew with chocolate and red cabbage, chilli aubergines with salmon or a hearty paprika tortilla.
- Special Features
- In the 1500ml magnum bottle, this wine displays particularly high ageing potential and an even more harmonious development of aromas.
