Wine Description for Rosé de la Côte des Bar Brut Nature 2017 by Louise Brison

Character
A Blanc de Noirs Rosé from pure Pinot Noir, embodying Louise Brison’s uncompromising philosophy. Presented as a Brut Nature without any dosage, this Champagne reveals itself with radical purity and lays bare the mineralic structure of the Côte des Bar without mercy. The 2017 vintage brings the characteristic tension between freshness and maturity that distinguishes Burgundy’s character in Champagne.
Terroir & Origin
The Côte des Bar, also known as Aube, lies in the southern part of Champagne and differs markedly in geological terms from the northern growing regions. Here, Kimmeridgian limestone soils dominate, which it shares with Chablis – a kinship that manifests itself in distinctive minerality. The warmer climate of this region favours the complete ripening of Pinot Noir and imparts the wines a Burgundian depth rarely found in classical Champagne. Louise Brison belongs to that generation of winemakers who are redefining the potential of this long-underestimated appellation.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Pinot Noir displays itself here in its full expressiveness – concentrated, structured and with the necessary acidity for a vintage-specific Champagne. The rosé colour emerges through brief skin contact, extracting phenols and colour compounds. The absence of dosage demands perfectly ripe fruit material and precise cellar technique. Only in this way does that balance between acidity and substance emerge, which carries a Brut Nature without becoming harsh or angular. Extended ageing on the lees imparts additional complexity and creamy texture to the wine.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The structure and dryness predestine this Champagne for the demanding table: wild salmon gravlax, scallops with cauliflower, rose-roasted veal fillet or Comté cheese with walnuts. Also a compelling accompaniment to Japanese cuisine – such as tuna tataki or uni.
