Wine Description for Rosato IGT 2024 by Tenuta di Carleone

Colour & Appearance
Pale salmon pink with subtle violet reflections – a rosé that announces its restraint and finesse from the very first glance.
Nose
Initially reductive and closed, the wine needs air and a generous glass. With patience, it rewards with an aromatic profile that favours skin rather than flesh: red apple, cherry stones, a whisper of citrus and cherry. Tart notes of lingonberries and rosehips lend the bouquet definition and tension – this is no easy-drinking summer wine, but a wine of real character.
Palate
Robust and herbal on the attack, dry and possessed of razor-sharp clarity. Structure dominates: sinewy, taut, carried by vibrant acidity and delicate tannins. Not a trace of flattering sweetness or southern opulence – instead linear freshness, saline grip and a mineral undertone reminiscent of wet stones. A rosé with backbone, achieving concentration through restraint.
Finish
Cool, precise and persistent. The acidity carries far, the saline aftertaste lingers – a wine that invites the next sip not through charm, but through its uncompromising clarity.
Terroir & Origin
From high-altitude vineyards around Radda in Chianti, where Tenuta di Carleone cultivates some 30 hectares – partly with vines over 60 years old – using organic methods. The elevation bestows this rosé its cool elegance and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Sangiovese as the base, supplemented by indigenous varieties. Early harvest, direct pressing, spontaneous fermentation in cement and stainless steel. Several months‘ ageing on fine lees in neutral vessels preserves freshness, texture and the invigorating acidity structure. A purist approach without oenological embellishment.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This structured rosé demands dishes with character of their own: grilled octopus, vitello tonnato, goat’s cheese, ceviche or pan-fried artichokes. Also a compelling pairing with sushi or salty olives.
Special Characteristics
An anti-trend rosé: no gluggable terrace wine, but a serious, terroir-driven wine with edges and angles. Moderate 11% alcohol underscores the purist approach. For lovers of straightforward, unadorned wines.
