Color
Bright straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose
The 2019 Riesling vom Grauen Schiefer by Clemens Busch oscillates on the nose between rich, ripe fruit, wet stone and biscuit roll. Lemon zest and the scent of a blossoming lemon grove as well as yellow stone fruit along with dried apricot float above the clear slate notes that remind us of wet stones. Pastry notes and a little vanilla in the buttercream combine all this into a fruit-driven and mineral-grounded overall appearance.
Mouth
On the palate, the citrus note shifts more towards orange and the skin of peach and apricot. With fine phenolics, the fruit is aromatically carried by the aromatic tannin in combination with the ripe, animating acidity. It also leaves no questions unanswered when it comes to origin, the slate is a tangible leitmotif, as it is in all of Busch's wines. Meanwhile, the Riesling vom Grauen Schiefer is open-hearted and accessible, but always enjoys two to three years of bottle maturity.
