Info about the wine
The main component of this wine comes from seven small vineyards around the village of Gueberschwihr. In recent years, a tiny production of young Riesling vines has been added, planted in the Hengst vineyard. Gueberschwihr benefits from a less early ripening climate, with most of the vineyards facing east on a gentle slope. The limestone soils are deep and rich and benefit from excellent water storage capacity, the vines here are never under water stress. The cooler limestone brings a structure based on crisp acidity and a full-bodied palate. The wines age very well and actually take some time to open up. These vineyards are very consistent, and even in 2018 they were able to produce a very classic wine from beautiful, healthy grapes.
Color
Sparkling, intense golden yellow.
Nose
Still somewhat closed and clearly marked by lime and coolness, the 2018 Riesling Roche Calcaire shows itself. It needs the carafe, then citrus and apple notes and a hint of passion fruit appear. Dried ginger, delicate wood smoke and flowers complete its aristocratic aroma.
Palate
Acidity, fruit and sweetness is the credo on the palate, with a lot of grip, the impression on the tongue is also youthful. A wine with depth and very much development potential, either store or enjoy caraffed from large glasses with dishes with salty and fruity character.
