Information on the drop
This unique wine springs from seven smaller vineyards surrounding the tranquil village of Gueberschwihr. Recently, a minimal harvest of young Riesling vines from the Hengst vineyard was added. Gueberschwihr benefits from a delayed ripening climate and most of its vineyards are positioned gently sloping down to the east. Deep, mineral-rich limestone soils favour excellent water retention, keeping the vines hydrated at all times. The cool limestone shapes the wine with a structured balance between crisp acidity and lush body. These wines are long-lived and need some time to fully develop. Even in the challenging year of 2018, they managed to conjure up a classic creation from fully ripe, healthy grapes.

Colour scheme
Penetrating, glittering golden yellow adorns the glass.

Fragrance
The 2018 Riesling Roche Calcaire starts off a little reserved, but after a short while reveals its cool bouquet reminiscent of limestone. Give it some atmospheric oxygen through a decanter and notes of citrus and apples unfold, interspersed with hints of exotic passion fruit. A hint of dried ginger, playful wood smoke and delicate floral nuances complete this noble fragrance heart.

Taste experience
A triad of acidity, fruit and sweetness dances on the palate, while the texture seems young and powerful - a terroir-influenced wine full of depth and considerable ageing potential. Either store it skilfully or enjoy it caraffed from generous glasses with dishes that trump with salty and fruity elements.

Alternative food recommendations
