Wine description for Riesling Marienburg Grosses Gewächs “Fahrlay Terassen” 2016 by Clemens Busch
- Colour & Appearance
- Clear, intense straw yellow with golden reflections, indicating ripeness and late harvest.
- Nose
- An aristocratic bouquet, dominated by the cool iron minerality of blue slate. Notes of wet stone, smoke and dried herbs emerge, combined with ripe apricot and a hint of citrus zest.
- Palate
- On the palate, the combination of power and precision typical of Clemens Busch reveals itself. The wine is dry, yet appears almost creamy through its enormous extract. A vibrant structure carries aromas of yellow stone fruit and salted lemon. Despite moderate 12% alcohol, it possesses impressive depth and phenolic tension.
- Finish
- An endlessly long, almost saline aftertaste. The mineral substance lingers and practically demands the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- Hails from the extremely steep terraced vineyard sites of Pündericher Marienburg. Here, hard blue slate dominates, responsible for the smoky, cool style of the “Fahrlay” parcel.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Riesling, harvested very late and selectively. Maturation takes place traditionally with spontaneous fermentation in large wooden casks, which gives the wine its characteristic composure and complexity.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- An excellent companion to pan-fried zander on lentil vegetables, scallops with fennel purée or light meat with creamy sauces.
- Special Features
- Clemens Busch is a master at breaking down the consolidated single vineyard sites of the 1970s back into their original terroirs. This wine is a liquid monument to biodynamics on the Moselle.
