Wine Description for Bourgogne Aligoté „En Buzigny“ Vieilles Vignes AOC 2022 from Rémi Jobard

Colour & Appearance
Pale straw yellow with luminous green reflections – a visual promise of freshness and vitality.
Nose
A fascinating aromatic interplay that constantly reinvents itself: apple blossom and white lilac dance with green apricots and lychees, whilst peach introduces a slightly phenolic, delicately bitter note. Beneath lies an impressive mineral layer – wet chalk and damp stone lend the wine an almost stony depth. Complex, multi-layered and in permanent metamorphosis.
Palate
Here the true greatness of this Aligoté reveals itself: pithy, firm and with surprising concentration, it rolls across the palate. A taut, precise attack is carried by an elegant, long-drawn arc of acidity that makes the wine sparkle. Delicately saline minerality and a powdery-fine grip accelerate the flavour experience. Crystalline clarity, with substance and backbone – definitely an Aligoté with six-cylinder power.
Finish
Long, mineral and characterised by vibrant freshness. The chalky minerality resonates, accompanied by a saline finesse that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The parcel En Buzigny is home to the estate’s oldest Aligoté vines – between 50 and 70 years old. The calcareous soils of Meursault are the foundation for this wine’s pronounced minerality and precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Rémi Jobard, an advocate of organic viticulture since 2008, has recently begun vinifying this Aligoté himself – previously his father sold the grapes. Maturation takes place in 600-litre Stockinger foudres rather than small barriques, to allow slow oxygen exchange without oak notes dominating. The result: crystalline-cut wines with profound minerality.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Pike quenelles on spinach with Burgundy butter, spinach dumplings in Burgundy butter or Königsberger Klopse – the saline minerality and vibrant acidity harmonise perfectly with creamy sauces and delicate fish dishes.
Special Features
An Aligoté that proves this often underestimated grape variety, in the right hands and from old vines, is capable of extraordinary complexity and depth. Jobard’s new-school approach with old-school vines.
