Wine Description for Bourgogne Aligoté „En Buzigny“ Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 by Rémi Jobard

Character
Rémi Jobard, who leads the renowned family wine estate in Meursault, demonstrates with this Aligoté from old vines that the often underestimated Burgundian grape variety is capable of great finesse. The addition of Vieilles Vignes is no mere marketing phrase here, but rather a statement of intent: old Aligoté stocks produce a concentration and complexity that far exceeds that of simple acidity carriers. The 2023 combines Burgundian elegance with the variety’s characteristic vibrant minerality – a wine with substance and personality.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site „En Buzigny“ lies in the Côte de Beaune, that heartland of Burgundy which is world-renowned for its white wines. Whilst Chardonnay dominates the limestone soils, Aligoté finds ideal conditions here on specific parcels. The calcareous soils lend the wine its distinctive minerality, whilst the continental climate provides the necessary ripeness. The 2023 vintage brought concentrated, well-balanced grapes with natural freshness following a challenging early summer.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Aligoté, Burgundy’s second white grape variety, was long dismissed as a simple bistro wine. Yet in the hands of conscientious winemakers like Jobard, it reveals its true potential. The old vines deliver smaller yields with more intense aromas – typically green apple, citrus fruits, white flowers and a saline minerality. Jobard’s vinification respects the fruit and the natural tension of the variety, without masking it with excessive oak. The result is an authentic, terroir-driven white wine with 13% alcohol – moderate and elegant.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Aligoté is the ideal companion to Burgundian cuisine: snails, gougères, jambon persillé or fresh oysters. The vibrant acidity harmonises perfectly with goat’s cheese, trout or scallops. Also an excellent choice with sushi and light seafood. A versatile food companion that enriches gastronomy without breaking the budget.
