Wine Description for Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière AOC 2024 by Thomas Morey

Character
Thomas Morey represents a new, intellectual generation in Burgundy. His Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru La Truffière 2024 presents itself not as a baroque blender, but as a precise, finely-structured wine of origin. In keeping with a purist aesthetic, this dry Chardonnay captivates through its vibrant energy, an almost surgical clarity and a subtle, mineral tension that eschews any superficial opulence. A wine of quiet, yet profound nobility.
Terroir & Origin
The Premier Cru vineyard site “La Truffière” in Puligny-Montrachet (Côte de Beaune) is renowned for its sparse, limestone-dominated soils that impart an incomparable character to the wines. That Thomas Morey – a winemaker in the 10th generation – masterfully understands this terroir is evidenced by the wine world’s highest accolade: even the legendary Domaine de la Romanée-Conti entrusts him with the care of their own Montrachet vines. This artisanal expertise translates the terroir of La Truffière flawlessly into the bottle.
Grape Variety & Vinification
This single-varietal Chardonnay comes from vineyards officially certified organic since 2017. In the cellar, Morey works with minimalist precision: fermentation is spontaneous and completely without sulphur. Ageing takes place with a very restrained proportion of new oak and without disruptive bâtonnage, in order not to mask the freshness of the grape. At a moderate 13.0% vol., the wine presents itself as pleasantly balanced, taut and terroir-focused.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The noble structure and fine acidity of this Premier Cru demand equally elegant cuisine. It pairs perfectly with seared scallops, fine sole fillet in light butter and lemon sauce or noble lobster. This wine also shines alongside delicate, pale meats such as calf’s sweetbreads or a mature, moderately robust Comté cheese.
