Wine Description for Pinot Noir 2023 from Loimer

Colour & Appearance
Transparent, luminous ruby red – a classic Pinot Noir profile that promises elegance and finesse.
Nose
Fascinatingly multi-layered: mulberries, lingonberries and pomegranate form the fruity foundation, whilst figs and sloe add dark accents. Particularly appealing are the savoury umami notes reminiscent of dried meat and pickled black walnuts – a distinctive signature that lends complexity and depth. Powerful, yet never obtrusive.
Palate
Here the winemaker’s discipline shines through: juicy and fresh on the attack, with a fine-grained acidity that carries the ruby fruit. The silky tannins are elegantly integrated, the texture grippy and vibrant. Good bite, radiant fruit – a Pinot with character and balance.
Finish
Cool and mineral-driven, shaped by the limestone gravel terroir from Gumpoldskirchen. Persistent, precise, with fine spice.
Terroir & Origin
A convincing blend from two terroirs: loess soils from Langenlois meet clay and limestone gravel sites from Gumpoldskirchen. Vines up to 30 years old, farmed biodynamically – you can taste it.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, hand-harvested mid-September. Spontaneous fermentation of whole bunches in open wooden vats over four weeks at a maximum of 28 °C. Twelve months ageing in 300-litre oak barrels, followed by three months rest in steel tank. Bottled unfiltered with minimal sulphur addition – pure, authentic winemaking signature.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The umami spice and elegant structure make this Pinot an ideal companion for roasted duck, venison loin, grilled tuna or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with hard cheeses such as Comté or aged Gruyère.
Special Features
At just 12.5% alcohol, a prime example of modern, approachable Pinot Noir – cool, precise, vibrant. Fred Loimer’s biodynamic approach is evident in the vitality and expressiveness of this wine.
