Wine description for Pernand-Vergelesses 1er Cru “Île des Vergelesses” rouge 2011 1500ml by Chandon de Briailles

A wine for purists and intellectuals. Those seeking superficial opulence in this 2011 will be disappointed; however, those who appreciate the naked, vibrant essence of Burgundian limestone will find their fulfilment here. Claude and François de Nicolay prove with this magnum that true greatness lies in restraint. The cooler 2011 vintage plays perfectly into the biodynamic precision of the house and presents itself in large format with striking freshness and structural integrity.

Colour & Appearance
A transparent, luminous garnet red with delicate lightening at the rim, indicating wonderful maturity.
Nose
A subtle, aristocratic bouquet of wild sour cherries and raspberries, underpinned by a deep minerality reminiscent of wet limestone. Added to this are ethereal notes of dried rose petals and a hint of forest floor.
Palate
On the palate, the wine shows itself sinewy and athletic. The structure is characterised by a vibrant, nervy acidity and fine-grained tannins that give the wine backbone. Not a trace of superfluous richness – instead pure precision and cool red fruit.
Finish
Impressively long and focused, the wine concludes on a saline note that makes you crave the next sip. A finale of great elegance and individuality.
Terroir & Origin
The vineyard site “Île des Vergelesses” is considered the heart of Pernand, directly bordering Savigny. The iron-rich limestone soil gives the wine its characteristic power and longevity.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, consistently biodynamic viticulture. Minimal intervention in the cellar to bring the typicity of the vineyard site unadulterated into the bottle.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Excellent with roasted pheasant, venison loin with lingonberries or a classic mushroom risotto with fresh herbs.
Special Features
The 1500ml magnum bottle guarantees extremely slow maturation and preserves the primary freshness of this characterful 2011 perfectly.
