Wine Description for Riesling Schäwer GG 2023 from Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow with clear, vibrant brilliance – a wine that visually emphasises its youth and freshness.
Nose
Fragrant and elegantly restrained, this slate Riesling presents itself with finesse. White blossoms and jasmine dominate the floral overtones, whilst herbal notes and subtle fruitiness provide complexity. Characteristic is the slightly oily slate note with a hint of incense and a steely minerality – typical of Riesling from this distinctive terroir.
Palate
Purist and precise. The wine displays a pleasant mouthfeel, paired with bitter apple skin notes, anise, verbena and lemon zest. The 24-hour skin contact lends the wine remarkable grip, whilst the slate minerality provides tension and vivacity. At 12% alcohol, it remains elegant and moreish.
Finish
Clearly defined with persistent minerality and a slightly saline note that invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The Burrweiler Schäwer is a rarity in the Pfalz – a slate vineyard site that extends up to 300 metres below the forest edge. This geological particularity fundamentally distinguishes the vineyard from the otherwise predominant limestone and sandstone soils of the region and gives the wine its characteristic mineral character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Riesling, following destemming, macerated on the skins for 24 hours, then fermented in stainless steel tanks. Six months’ maturation on fine lees provides additional texture and complexity without masking the varietal clarity.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect companion to oysters, scallops, sushi or sashimi. Also an excellent choice with pan-fried pike-perch with herb butter or asparagus with hollandaise sauce. The mineral precision harmonises beautifully with goat’s cheese.
Special Features
Debut vintage from this site – a bold step by the Rebholz brothers that consistently continues the estate’s philosophy: purist, terroir-driven, uncompromisingly clear.
