Wine Description for Riesling “Ganz Horn” GG 2023 from Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Medium straw yellow, clear and luminous in the glass.
Nose
This Riesling presents itself sensually and juicy with remarkable fullness. Ripe peach and apple with skin dominate, accompanied by grapefruit with skin, white currants and a hint of passion fruit. Greengage plums join fine herbal notes and a subtle mineral undertone. The aromatics appear distinctly more opulent than the wines from the surrounding Im Sonnenschein vineyard site.
Palate
Here the Ganz Horn reveals its true nature: after the sensual nose, a powerful, present structure surprises with palpable acidity. A fine tannin imparts grip, whilst vibrant minerality and salinity electrify the wine. The acidity is clearly defined, the texture fine, the drinking flow remarkable. Pure energy in the glass – a fascinating contrast to the soft nose.
Finish
Long, mineral and with sustained freshness. The saline component remains present and invites the next sip.
Terroir & Origin
The parcel Siebeldinger Ganshorn lies within the Im Sonnenschein vineyard site at 160 to 250 metres elevation with southern exposure. Whilst the surrounding vineyard site stands on ancient shell limestone soils (220 million years old), the Ganz Horn is geologically young: Pleistocene gravel (approximately 1 million years old) with Buntsandstein, gravel and loam characterise this parcel and lend the wine its distinctive character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, after destemming 24 hours skin contact. Spontaneous fermentation in stainless steel following pre-clarification, followed by six months ageing on fine lees. Moderate alcohol content of 12% vol.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The minerality and acidity structure harmonise perfectly with scallops, pan-fried monkfish or turbot with herb butter. Also an excellent choice with calf’s sweetbreads, asparagus with hollandaise sauce or aged Comté.
Special Features
Grosses Gewächs from one of the Palatinate’s most renowned wine estates. The wine has been designated “Ganz Horn” since 2018 to avoid confusion with the vineyard site designation. A very successful example of the 2023 vintage that masterfully explores the tension between sensual fruit and mineral precision.
