Wine Description for Riesling „Ganz Horn“ GG 2022 by Ökonomierat Rebholz

Colour & Appearance
Pale, sparkling golden yellow with brilliant clarity – a visual promise of the energy this wine holds in reserve.
Nose
Enchantingly complex and fragrant: A kaleidoscope of oranges, peach and lime, interwoven with ginger, freshly picked lemon balm and sage. Beneath lie smoky, yeasty notes and an impressive minerality that recalls the quartz pebbles in the vineyard. The nose already conveys that coolness and depth which characterises great Rieslings.
Palate
Slender, precise and electrifyingly vibrant. Citrus fruits dominate initially, followed by peach, orange, young pineapple and a finely tart grapefruit note. Despite considerable depth and juiciness, the wine remains light-footed – it practically dances across the tongue. The modest 12.5% alcohol promotes a drinking flow that is utterly addictive. A paradox: powerful yet featherlight.
Finish
Long, cool and carried by vibrant minerality. The citrus notes linger, framed by saline freshness and subtle smokiness.
Terroir & Origin
The VDP.GROSSE LAGE „Im Sonnenschein“ in Siebeldingen is a rarity in the Palatinate: a protected south-facing slope in the Queich Valley, characterised by Pleistocene gravel soils of Buntsandstein, gravel and loam. The quartz pebbles in the soil – some processed into biodynamic preparations – lend the wine its characteristic minerality and tension.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Selective hand-harvesting in several passes, destemming, 24-hour skin contact, gentle pressing. Fermentation and five months of maturation in stainless steel on full lees preserve the crystalline purity of the Riesling. Bottled in June 2023.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Onsen egg on smoked potato cream with sage, monkfish with orange-pumpkin seed crust and Riesling risotto or veal fillet in herb crust with parsnips and citrus jus. The wine pairs well with both finesse and substance on the plate.
Special Notes
This GG is already approachable, but drinking it now means missing the chance to experience its true greatness. Definitely decant or – better still – exercise patience for a few years. A Riesling that impressively confirms Rebholz’s reputation as one of the finest estates in the Palatinate.
