Wine description for Nahesteiner Riesling trocken 2023 by Diel

Colour & Appearance
Pale golden yellow with vibrant green reflections – a visual promise of youthful freshness and vitality.
Nose
Spectacular fruit explosion: apple, pear, mirabelle plum and lime dominate the first impression. With air contact, fascinating secondary aromas unfold – ginger, stony minerality and subtly smoky nuances. This complexity in an estate wine is remarkable.
Palate
The wine grabs your attention – with impressive density and juiciness. Vineyard peach and orange come to the fore, accompanied by a distinctive saline character that gives the wine tension and drinking flow. The 13% alcohol is perfectly integrated.
Finish
Fine tannins structure the aftertaste and lend the Riesling an elegant backbone. Medium to long, with persistent minerality and freshness.
Terroir & Origin
From the Nahe, one of Germany’s most underrated Riesling regions. The Diel estate ranks among the absolute elite of the region and masterfully understands how to capture the stony-mineral character of Nahe soils in the bottle.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Riesling, gently pressed. Spontaneous fermentation with natural yeasts, maturation partly in stainless steel tanks, partly in large wooden barrels – a clever combination that preserves freshness whilst building texture.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The fine tannins make it an ideal food companion: poultry, pork, Asian cuisine with ginger and lemongrass, sushi, goat’s cheese or fish dishes with citrus notes. The saline minerality pairs particularly well with oysters or scallops.
Special Features
An estate wine that performs far above its price point. Diel demonstrates here impressively that great Riesling quality need not be expensive. The value for money is extraordinary – almost outrageously good. A wine that is fun to drink and yet demands to be taken seriously.
