Wine Description for Muscat Altenbourg Le Tri 2007 from Domaine Albert Mann

Colour & Appearance
Luminous golden yellow with amber-hued reflections that hint at the noble sweet concentration. Syrupy viscosity in the glass, testament to the noble Botrytis selection.
Nose
An intoxicating wealth of aromas: candied rose petals, lychee and orange blossom. These are joined by acacia honey, dried apricots and a whisper of exotic spices. The characteristic Muscat aromatics reveal themselves in their most concentrated, most elegant form – intense, yet never obtrusive.
Palate
Despite its opulent sweetness, this wine remains remarkably light-footed and graceful. The moderate alcohol content of 10.5% vol. lends it an almost weightless elegance. Honeydew melon, rose jelly and candied citrus fruits meld with a vibrant acidity that guarantees structure and balance. The mineral character of the Grand Cru Altenbourg – with its limestone-rich soil – runs through the wine like a golden thread, preventing any heaviness.
Finish
Long, elegant and carried by a delicate freshness. The sweetness never finishes sticky; rather, it is perfectly balanced by the minerality and a subtle bitterness of grapefruit peel. A wine that invites you to take another sip.
Terroir & Origin
Altenbourg is one of five Grand Cru vineyard sites of Domaine Albert Mann. The limestone-rich soils lend these wines their characteristic minerality and tension – particularly valuable in noble sweet wines, which thereby retain their elegance.
Grape Variety & Vinification
“Le Tri” denotes the selective hand-harvest of botrytised grapes – a selection only possible in exceptional vintages. Muscat, already the most aromatic of all Alsatian grape varieties, achieves its most concentrated expression here.
Food Pairing Recommendations
Classically with Roquefort or other blue cheeses. Excellent also with apricot tart, crème brûlée or lemon sorbet. The adventurous pair it with foie gras – an Alsatian liaison par excellence.
Special Characteristics
A wine for the patient: Domaine Albert Mann, in family ownership for nearly 400 years, vinifies noble sweet “Tri” wines only in exceptional vintages. With over 15 years of maturity, this 2007 demonstrates the impressive longevity of Alsatian sweet wines.
