Wine Description for Crémant d’Alsace Extra Brut 2022 from Domaine Albert Mann
- Colour & Appearance
- Luminous, crystalline golden yellow with a finely spun, persistent mousseux – the perlage rises evenly and gracefully, already promising vibrancy and precision in the glass.
- Nose
- The nose opens like an Alsatian flower meadow in early summer: white flowers, ripe pear and apple meet delicate notes of quince and vineyard peach. A hint of brioche lends the whole an inviting, subtly yeasty depth. Subtle, expressive and bearing that characteristic minerality that makes Maison Albert Mann so unmistakable.
- Palate
- On the palate, the wine delivers on the nose’s promise: invigorating freshness, juicy fruit fullness and a fine-grained, present perlage that unfolds elegantly. Apricot and ripe stone fruit notes spread broadly and invitingly, carried by a lively, clean acidity that keeps the wine taut and appetising.
- Finish
- The finish is fresh, vertical and vibrant – with a fine vivacity that enlivens the palate and calls for another sip. Not a gram of heaviness, only precision.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from vineyard sites around Kientzheim and Wettolsheim – two of Alsace’s most renowned wine-growing communes. The soils alternate between limestone clay, sand and gravel, which gives the wine its characteristic minerality and freshness. The vines are approximately 30 years old.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- The cuvée comprises 87% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 8% Pinot Noir and 5% Pinot Gris. The grapes are hand-harvested, the first fermentation takes place in tank, and bottle fermentation begins in February 2023. Maturation on the lees lasts a minimum of 18 months – deliberately without malolactic fermentation to preserve the natural acidity structure. The result: an Extra Brut of remarkably clear definition.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- A convincing aperitif, yet capable of far more: Excellent with oysters and fine seafood platters, with goat’s cheese tartlets, flammkuchen or an elegant starter with white asparagus and hollandaise sauce. Also a surprisingly harmonious choice as an accompaniment to Asian cuisine with subtle spice.
- Special Features
- The vintage 2022 was early and heterogeneous – yet the resilience of old vines and Albert Mann’s artisanal skill have crafted from it a Crémant that unites freshness and substance in rare balance. A sparkling wine that carries the Alsatian wine philosophy – precision, terroir expression, authenticity – in every bubble.
