Wine Description for Crémant d’Alsace Extra Brut 2022 from Domaine Albert Mann
- Colour & Appearance
- Pale golden yellow with brilliant clarity. The perlage is fine and elegant, with sustained, lively mousse that disperses gracefully in the glass – a visual promise of what is to follow.
- Nose
- Like an Alsatian flower meadow in early summer: white flowers, acacia blossoms and apple blossoms dominate the subtle opening. Behind these unfold juicy notes of pear, apple, quince and vineyard peach. Delicate brioche hints from 18 months on the lees impart depth, whilst the characteristic mineral freshness of Domaine Mann defines the character. Expressive and charming, without being intrusive.
- Palate
- The invigorating freshness continues on the palate – vertical and precise. The perlage is demanding, yet never aggressive, unfolding with fine structure. Apricots and ripe pear fruit burst forth on the tongue, carried by a bright, refreshing acidity. The Extra Brut dosage (minimal) allows the fruit and minerality to shine unadorned. Harmonious, juicy, with impressive volume for a Crémant.
- Finish
- Lively and persistent with mineral freshness. The vivacity endures to the end without becoming tiring – a Crémant that invites the next sip.
- Terroir & Origin
- The grapes come from the vineyard sites around Kientzheim and Wettolsheim, from vines averaging 30 years old. The soils – a blend of chalky loam, sand and gravel – impart the wine’s characteristic minerality and freshness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 87% Pinot Blanc and Auxerrois, 8% Pinot Noir, 5% Pinot Gris. Hand-harvested, first fermentation in tank, bottle fermentation from February 2023. A minimum of 18 months on the lees, without malolactic fermentation – for maximum freshness and precision.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- The perfect aperitif, but also an excellent companion to oysters, scallops, sushi, goat’s cheese or asparagus with hollandaise sauce. Its liveliness makes it the ideal partner for refined, light cuisine.
- Special Features
- The 2022 vintage was early and heterogeneous, yet the vines of Domaine Mann adapted perfectly. The result: a Crémant with extraordinary freshness and ageing potential – a rarity in this category.
