Wine Description for Matè Vino Rosso 2025 by Sottimano

Character
The Matè Vino Rosso is a vibrant, dry red wine from the hand of one of Piedmont’s most renowned estates. The name „Matè“ – Piedmontese dialect for „madman“ – already reveals the playful attitude behind this wine: a declaration of individuality, a celebration of the unexpected. Light, direct and carefree, yet without sacrificing depth.
Terroir & Origin
The Sottimano estate lies in the heart of the Langhe, in the hills surrounding Neive – one of the classic Barbaresco villages. The Sottimano family has tended their vineyard sites for generations with great care and stands for a artisanal, terroir-driven approach that consistently places the distinctive characteristics of Piedmontese soil and climate at the forefront. The region’s continental climate, with hot summers and cool nights, lends the wines freshness and aromatic precision.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Brachetto is one of Piedmont’s most charming and yet underrated indigenous grape varieties. Although it is primarily known as a sweet sparkling wine variety, in dry vinification it reveals an entirely different, fascinating side: lively acidity, delicate tannins and a distinctly floral-fruity profile with hints of red berries and rose petals. With this wine, Sottimano pursues an uncomplicated, fresh vinification that preserves the variety’s aromatics and celebrates its lightness – a counterweight to the serious grandeur of the estate’s Barbaresco wines.
Food Pairing Suggestions
The lightness and freshness of the Matè make it a versatile companion to the Piedmontese table. It harmonises beautifully with salumi and antipasti, pairs excellently with vitello tonnato and light pasta dishes such as tajarin al burro. It also unfolds its uncomplicated charm alongside goat’s cheese or a summery insalata di riso. A wine for the moment – best served lightly chilled.
