Wine description for Maustal Riesling Großes Gewächs 2023 from Luckert - Zehnthof

Colour & appearance

A clear, pale straw yellow colour with brilliant reflections that visually announce the precision of this Franconian Riesling.

Nose

The aroma is of captivating clarity - a prime example of the shell limestone character. Fine citrus notes of lime and yuzu are accompanied by floral accents. With air, a fascinating complexity develops from white peachThe wine is characterised by its aromatic, tart herbal nuances and that unmistakable, almost smoky minerality that only great terroirs can produce.

Palate

On the palate, the Maustal displays an impressive structure - crystalline acidity that is never aggressive, but gives the wine a perfect backbone. The minerality manifests itself as a salty component which, together with a fine phenolic flavour, creates tension. Despite its youth, it is already astonishingly complex with a long, vibrant finish that emphasises the quality of the terroir. A Riesling of remarkable precision and finesse that impressively demonstrates the class of the 2023 vintage in Franconia.

General information

This Groß-Gewächs Riesling comes from a four-hectare steep slope south of Sulzfeld, whose 36-42-year-old vines are rooted in the barren, skeleton-rich Upper Muschelkalk. The traditional manual labour of the Luckert family - from selective hand-picking to careful maceration and spontaneous fermentation - and ageing in classic double barrels made from Spessart oak give this wine its unmistakable identity.

Food pairing suggestions

An ideal companion to River fishing such as zander or trout, especially in combination with Butter-lemon sauces. Harmonises excellently with Seafoodin particular Oysters and Lobster. The fine minerality also complements Dishes with asparagus or Goat's cheese variations.

Special features

This Riesling represents the pinnacle of Franconian wine culture and impressively proves that the region should not only be known for Silvaner. The combination of old vines, exceptional terroir and traditional craftsmanship makes it one of the most remarkable Rieslings in Germany. Can be stored for at least 10-15 years, with the first signs of a fascinating complexity of maturity to be expected in 3-5 years.
