Wine Description for Mi-Pentes Premier Cru Extra Brut L2019+Réserve by Lacourte-Godbillon

Colour & Appearance
Luminous straw yellow with fine, precisely ascending bead stream – a Champagne that already demonstrates composure in the glass.
Nose
The nose is complex without heaviness: roasted hazelnuts and wet chalk form the mineralic backbone, flanked by citrus, rosy-cheeked Rubinette apple and a seductive note of Gran Reserva ham. Despite 42 months on the lees, the autolytic notes remain remarkably disciplined – no brioche cliché, but finely chiselled depth.
Palate
On the palate, the Mi-Pentes reveals itself as surprisingly generous and creamy, yet always held in check by a taut, lively bead. It oscillates elegantly between pure-toned fruit and fine spice, carried by a succulent, almost hedonistic texture. The oak ageing flatters without dominating – smoothness and substance in exemplary balance.
Finish
Long, precise, supported by fine phenolics. The finish concludes with discreet salinity and mineralic freshness – a Champagne that invites the next sip before the last has faded away.
Terroir & Origin
From the Premier Cru village of Écueil in the Petit Montagne de Reims – one of Champagne’s quiet heroes. The estate of Géraldine Lacourte and Richard Desvignes has worked organically since 2016 and focuses exclusively on the premier sites of the village. Short distances, precise knowledge of every vineyard.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100 % Pinot Noir from five individual vineyard sites, assembled from 66 % 2019 vintage and 34 % reserve wines 2018. Nine months ageing on the lees, of which 44 % in 228-litre barriques. Disgorged in January 2024 after approximately 42 months on the lees. Dosage: 2.5 g/l – Extra Brut, consistently dry.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Ideal with ragout fin of fine mushrooms, classic trout au bleu or quail with mushrooms in tarragon cream. The creamy structure and fine spice make it a congenial companion to dishes with depth and elegance.
Special Features
A Champagne that exemplifies the modern, precise style of the Lacourte-Godbillon house: no compromises on quality, organic viticulture, minimal dosage – and yet anything but austere. An insider tip from one of Champagne’s underrated Premier Cru villages.
