Wine Description for La Mula de la Quietud 2017 1500ml Magnum from Quinta de la Quietud

Character
The magnum bottling of this Toro Tempranillo embodies the powerful elegance of a region that long stood in Rioja’s shadow, yet today is celebrated for its distinctive interpretation of the Tempranillo grape. At 15% alcohol, it displays the concentration and ripeness that Toro’s continental climate produces, without descending into heaviness. The name „La Mula“ – the mule – references the working animals of traditional vineyards and underscores Quinta de la Quietud’s artisanal philosophy.
Terroir & Origin
Toro lies west of Rioja at around 700 metres elevation, where extreme temperature fluctuations between day and night create intense aromas. The barren, stony soils and harsh continental climate with hot summers and cold winters shape a wine style of particular density. The region, traversed by the Duero river, boasts old, ungrafted vines that have resisted phylloxera and produce wines of extraordinary depth.
Grape Variety & Vinification
In Toro, Tempranillo is known as Tinta de Toro – a local variant with thicker skins and higher tannin structure. Quinta de la Quietud embraces traditional vinification with respect for the fruit and terroir. The 1.5-litre magnum bottle provides ideal conditions for slow maturation, as the favourable wine-to-oxygen ratio enables more harmonious development. The 2017 vintage benefited from a balanced growing cycle with good ripeness whilst retaining freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
A wine of this structure demands hearty dishes from Castilian cuisine: Cochinillo asado (roast suckling pig), braised lamb shoulder, grilled Chuletón steak or braised beef cheeks. Also an excellent choice with aged Manchego or robust stews. The magnum is perfectly suited for festive occasions with larger gatherings.
