Wine information
The La Diablesse is a Cabernet Franc from Beaumont en Véron from the so-called Picasse terroir, which is characterised by clay and white limestone. The vineyard faces north and covers just 0.8 hectares. Vines aged between 50 and 100 years are planted there. The grapes were harvested by hand and fermented spontaneously with their own yeasts in concrete to preserve the typical freshness of the terroir. This was followed by a slow malolactic fermentation in 400-litre barrels . The wine was bottled after eleven months unfined and unfiltered with little sulphur.
Color
young purple red with slight rim brightening
Nose
The 2021s Chinon La Diablesse appears elegant and fine with a dense red and dark fruit reminiscent of raspberries, blackberries and ripe cherries with a little cassis. The fruit seems ripe, but also cool to a certain extent, which may be due to the northern exposure of the vines. The ageing in wood gives the Cabernet Franc a slight hint of Bressaola, some smoke and chocolate. The fine spice of allspice, leaves and rocks is also pleasant.
Palate
On the palate the Chinon Pure, clear and juicy. It has a pleasantly firm acid structure and a noble tannin reminiscent of chalk dust. What is fascinating is the tension that the La Diablesse and holds it until the finale. Elegant and fine, it also appears firm and earthy. The dark, juicy and ripe fruit is accompanied by notes reminiscent of forest floor, leaves and undergrowth. The dark fruit seems juicy, partly also crisp. What fascinates until the long finish is the acidity, which seems ripe but pressing and is accompanied by an increasingly prominent minerality.
