Wine Description for Il Corzanello Rosato IGT 2024 by Corzano e Paterno

Colour & Appearance
Pale salmon pink in the glass, evoking the restrained elegance of Provençal rosés rather than the more robust rosati of central Italy. Clear and luminous.
Nose
Fine red berry fruits dominate: raspberries, red and white currants, alongside the slightly tart note of sour cherries. Subtle floral accents of white flowers, mallow and a whisper of jasmine lend the wine finesse. Particularly charming: the mineral undertone of wet pebbles after summer rain – a sign of precision and terroir.
Palate
Here it becomes clear that Sangiovese is capable of far more than merely Chianti. The juicy fruit presents itself unpretentiously and seriously, carried by a silky fine tannin that gives the rosato structure and substance. The ripe, expansive acidity arc – deliberately left without malolactic fermentation – imparts tension and freshness to the wine. A rosato with depth, offering more than just a terrace wine.
Finish
Persistently fresh with fine fruit and mineral resonance. The acidity carries through elegantly, without becoming intrusive.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Predominantly 100% Sangiovese, in rare vintages supplemented with some Cannaiolo. Hand-harvested grapes are immediately chilled, then pressed as whole bunches with stems – an unusual, quality-focused method. Spontaneous fermentation at cool 13-15°C, followed by four months of lees ageing for added texture. The deliberate avoidance of malolactic fermentation preserves the wine’s characteristic freshness.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This rosato deserves more than aperitif honours: vitello tonnato, grilled tuna, saltimbocca, tomato panzanella, pan-fried squid or goat’s cheese with herbs. The structure also permits lighter meat dishes.
Special Characteristics
An „excitingly understated“ rosato – there could hardly be a more apt description – a wine with character and potential that demonstrates the seriousness of Tuscan wine culture even in its rosé incarnation.
