Wine Description for Gigondas 2016 1500ml by d’Ouréa
- Colour & Appearance
- The wine presents itself in a deep, almost opaque purple-red with brilliant lustre in the glass.
- Nose
- A concentrated and multi-layered bouquet. Dark forest fruits such as blackberry and blueberry take centre stage, accompanied by a distinctive spiciness. Notes of black olives, freshly ground pepper, liquorice and a hint of black nuts lend the nose enormous depth and character.
- Palate
- On the palate, Adrien Roustan reveals the full finesse of the 2016 vintage. Despite the power typical of the southern Rhône, the wine is remarkably playful and elegant. The dense, berry-driven fruit is supported by a silky, fine-grained tannin and a vibrant acidity that provides freshness and structure. At 13.5% vol., it displays a remarkable balance without any alcoholic heaviness.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- A classic cuvée of 90% Grenache and 10% Syrah. Artisanal precision that captures the terroir of Gigondas authentically.
- Food Pairing Suggestions
- An excellent companion to hearty dishes such as braised pork cheeks with lentils, pan-fried calf’s heart with rosemary or braised radicchio with walnut cheese and aged balsamic vinegar.
- Special Features
- In the 1500ml magnum bottle, this Gigondas displays enhanced ageing potential and a particularly harmonious development of aromas.
