Wine description for Eichhorn DOC 2023 from Manincor

Colour & appearance
Strong straw yellow with bright, almost golden reflections - a wine that already shows its substance and maturity in the glass.
Nose
The 2023 vintage is unusually generous and opulent. After an initial reduction, which develops into a delightful smoky note with air, a lavish fruit basket unfolds: yellow pears, green apricots, crunchy apples and delicate Orange blossom dominate. These are joined by Roasted hazelnuts and Cereals - a fascinating dichotomy between crystalline clarity and a smoky, weighted flavour.
Palate
Expansive, juicy, downright radiant: the ripe yellow fruit fills the entire palate with an intensity reminiscent of the flavours of the sea. Waxed apple peel remembered. Salted hazelnuts, Barley meal and Dried flowers complement the flavour. The viscous, almost creamy texture is contoured by a fine phenolic flavour at the edge of the tongue - structure meets fullness.
Departure
Medium-bodied with a lingering fruitiness and a nutty, slightly salty note that invites you to take another sip.
Terroir & origin
The grapes come from the renowned Terlan vineyard Dear Aich and the vineyard Squirrel, a south-western slope at an altitude of 300 metres. The soils of sandy loam on weathered porphyry give the wine its mineral tension.
Grape variety & vinification
Pinot blanc (Pinot Blanc) in its purest form. Despite a challenging vintage with a wet spring and hot summer, the grapes were harvested at the end of September after a long ripening period. Eight hours of maceration, spontaneous fermentation in wood and nine months of ageing on the fine lees characterise this wine.
Food pairing suggestions
A decidedly gastronomic wine that calls for strong partners: Fried turbot, Sweetbreads with morels, Risotto with pumpkin and parmesan, Mature mountain cheese or Poultry in cream sauce.
Special features
The 2023 is more opulent and accessible than in typical years - an Eichhorn with more fullness, but without losing its characteristic finesse. A fascinating vintage expression between power and elegance.
