Color
The wine shows a clear garnet red with a ruby core and lightens, finely shining, only discreetly to the rim.
Nose
Spice dominates the unswirled glass. Carried by the fruit of black cherry, rosehip and ripe like dried cherry tomatoes, peppery and earthy notes spread. Spice in the form of turmeric, allspice and red pepper, as well as that of nutmeg, cedar and the smokiness of a smouldering charcoal stove. After some time it becomes, with constant robustness, fruity charming and flavours of cassis and its foliage as well as Amarena cherry sweeten the darkness.
Palate
Dark berry yet refreshingly juicy and rolling along on fine-grained tannin, this Nero d'Avola cuts a determined swath down the palate like lava along the slopes of Mount Etna. The 2010 Contrada from Azienda Agricola Cos is a red wine that is as rustic as it is elegant, and has found its exact middle ground in terms of body and weight.
