Wine description for Particella 128 Spumante dell’Emilia IGT 2022 by Cinque Campi

Character
An authentic sparkling wine from Emilia-Romagna, which brings the rediscovered autochthonous grape variety Spergola into the spotlight. Cinque Campi interprets this local speciality with artisanal ambition and respect for tradition. The moderate alcohol content of 12% and the dry orientation underscore the refreshing, uncomplicated character – a Spumante that unites joie de vivre and regional identity.
Terroir & Origin
Emilia-Romagna is renowned for its gastronomic diversity and less so for international grape varieties. This is precisely where Cinque Campi’s strength lies: the focus on Spergola, an almost forgotten grape from the hills around Scandiano and Reggio Emilia. Parcel 128 stands symbolically for precise provenance and single-vineyard philosophy. The temperate climate between the Apennines and the Po Valley, the chalky soils and the cool autumn nights create ideal conditions for aromatic, fresh sparkling wines with tension and drinkability.
Grape Variety & Vinification
The Spergola – also called Spergolina – was long considered a relic, but is experiencing a renaissance thanks to committed winemakers like Cinque Campi. The grape variety brings natural freshness, fine aromatics and lively acidity, making it predestined for sparkling wine production. The 2022 vintage benefited from a warm yet balanced year. Vinification presumably follows the Metodo Martinotti (Charmat method), which preserves primary fruit aromas and creates accessibility. The result is a Spumante with personality, without pretension – honest, lively, regionally rooted.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This Spumante is tailor-made for the cuisine of Emilia-Romagna: Prosciutto di Parma, Parmigiano Reggiano at various ages, Tigelle with spreads or Erbazzone. Also an excellent choice with fried seafood, Vitello tonnato or herb risotto. As an aperitif with olives and almonds, it reveals its convivial side. A wine that doesn’t dominate food, but accompanies it – very much in the spirit of Italian table culture.
