Wine Description for Dolcetto d’Alba DOC 2023 by Chiara Boschis – E.Pira & Figli

Colour & Appearance
Luminous, deep ruby red with a youthful violet shimmer that underscores the freshness of the 2023 vintage. A Dolcetto as one imagines it – colour-intense and inviting in the glass.
Nose
A pristine, classic Dolcetto: dense dark berry fruitblackberries, cornelian cherries, plums – dominates the bouquet. Beneath this, an earthy spice layer of cloves, black pepper and nutmeg. In the top notes, the varietal floral notes of hollyhocks and violet lilac emerge – charming and unmistakably Piedmontese.
Palate
Here the wine undergoes a fascinating transformation: the dark fruit of the nose shifts into a vibrant red fruitiness. Sour cherries, raspberries and lingonberries drive the wine forward with pace and energy. The taut acidity provides backbone and structure, whilst the moderate tannin remains discreetly in the background. At just 12.5% alcohol, the Dolcetto comes across as refreshingly light-footed without losing substance.
Finish
Crisp, fresh and straightforward with a fruity-herbal aftertaste that invites the next sip. No length for length’s sake – instead, pure and honest.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from the estate’s own vineyards around Barolo with a remarkable soil diversity: old, calcareous clay soils in light grey and pink, interspersed with siliceous sandstones, calcium carbonate and iron. This complexity is reflected in the wine’s multi-layered character.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Dolcetto, aged exclusively in stainless steel to preserve the fine, vibrant fruit. Chiara Boschis deliberately forgoes wood – a statement for the variety itself.
Food Pairing Recommendations
An „intrepid partner for fatty dishes“: vitello tonnato, salami and mortadella, pizza with sausage, pasta al ragù, pan-fried liver or medium-aged cheese. The acidity cuts through fat like a knife through butter.
Special Features
From one of Barolo’s most renowned estates – Chiara Boschis proves that even the often underestimated Dolcetto reaches great heights in the right hands. An everyday wine with soul.
