Wine Description for Chassagne-Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot AC 2018 – Thomas Morey by Thomas Morey
- Colour & Appearance
- Radiant, deep golden yellow with delicate emerald-green reflections at the rim.
- Nose
- An aristocratic bouquet that balances the warmth of the 2018 vintage with cool precision. Aromas of ripe white peach, citrus zest and acacia blossom dominate, underpinned by a fine smoky note reminiscent of wet flint. The subtle oak influence reveals itself with nobility through hints of fresh brioche and a touch of roasted almonds.
- Palate
- On the palate, the Morgeot displays its characteristic stature and power, yet remains remarkably vertical and focused. The texture is creamy and substantial, supported by a vibrant, perfectly integrated acidity structure. Flavour notes of yellow apple, salted lemon and subtle mineral salinity lend the wine enormous depth and tension.
- Finish
- An impressively long-lasting finale, characterised by chalky minerality and fine phenolics. The purity of the fruit lingers long and testifies to the quality of the old vines.
- Terroir & Origin
- Grown on the calcareous clay soils of the renowned 1er Cru vineyard site Morgeot in Chassagne-Montrachet. The deep-rooted old vines from the 1950s and 60s lend the wine its characteristic density and terroir authenticity.
- Grape Variety & Vinification
- 100% Chardonnay, produced from organic viticulture. Spontaneous fermentation and careful maturation with only 20% new oak preserve the energetic freshness. Minimal sulphiting ensures an unadulterated expression.
- Food Pairing Recommendations
- An excellent companion to pan-seared scallops, lobster in butter sauce or a classic Brie with morels. Also outstanding with aged mountain cheese.
- Special Characteristics
- Thomas Morey achieves here a symbiosis of traditional power and modern brilliance. A wine with considerable ageing potential that perfectly reflects the elegance of the 10th generation of winemakers.
