Wine Description for Mâcon-Vinzelles „Le Clos de Grand-Père“ AOC 2024 by La Soufrandière

Colour & Appearance
Sparkling, medium gold-yellow with vibrant green reflections – a promising sign of freshness and youthfulness.
Nose
Refined and multi-layered, this 2024 presents itself with elegance. The nose unfolds a sophisticated medley of apple, lemon and quince, accentuated by grapefruit zest. Maritime notes of shellfish and sea breeze meld with floral hints of linden blossom and a whisper of anise. The subtle use of oak shows itself delicately through tender vanilla and cedarwood nuances – perfectly integrated, never intrusive.
Palate
On the palate, the youthful energy of this Chardonnay reveals itself in full splendour. A stimulating acidity forms the backbone, carried by fine light fruit and distinctive saline notes that recall the minerality of the clay-limestone terroir. A subtle tannin imparts additional structure and depth. The wine still appears somewhat closed – typical of a young, ambitious Mâcon with ageing potential.
Finish
Refreshing and persistent, with lingering citrus aromas and mineral precision.
Terroir & Origin
A careful assemblage of various parcels on clay-limestone soils in Vinzelles, southern Burgundy. The harvest took place between 12th and 23rd September – a window that enabled optimal ripeness whilst preserving freshness.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Chardonnay, vinified 70% in stainless steel for freshness and fruit clarity, 30% in oak for complexity and structure. Minimally sulphited – a hallmark of La Soufrandière. Production: 8,214 bottles and 480 magnums.
Food Pairing Suggestions
This multi-layered Chardonnay harmonises beautifully with grilled monkfish, scallops in butter sauce, lobster salad, goat’s cheese or Comté. Also an excellent choice with poultry in cream sauce or risotto with porcini mushrooms.
Special Notes
Do decant or allow 1-2 years of bottle age – this wine has clear development potential and will gain in complexity and harmony over time. A characterful, authentic Mâcon-Vinzelles that demonstrates what is possible in this often underestimated appellation.
