Info
Calafata is not just a winery. In terms of wine, it should rather be called a cooperative. It is a social project and a catch basin for the socially disadvantaged or marginalized. Thus, one can also expect political statements here. On the back label as well as on the cork you can find "make wine not war" and "in ground we trust". Clear statements. Besides wine, they are also dedicated to the cultivation of vegetables and olives.
Gronda is a cuvée of Vermentino, Malvasia, Trebbiano and Moscato. The who is who of the white Tuscan vines. Vermentino was the first wine produced by this social cooperative with biodynamic farming.
Color
Bright golden yellow, light reflexes
Nose
With the Gronda, Calafata shows a clearly Mediterranean, warm wine that appears clear and tidy at the same time. Discreetly, it is characterised by reduction in the current stage. This makes it appear leaner and tighter. Abundant floral nuances form the dominant part. Raspberries, white currants, ripe apples and a little mango provide the corresponding fruit components as a contrast. Roasted almonds and dried herbs form its backbone. Oregano, marjoram and thyme open up at the moment. It presents itself ethereally in the form of eucalyptus, lemon balm and mint.
Palate
The fruit then takes over on the palate. Bright and yellow fruits show themselves in all facets. Tart as well as fresh accents are thereby set and emerge in wave-like form. The tongue automatically clicks after each sip. The desire for the second is clearly generated. The fruit is juxtaposed with a pleasant, balanced acidity. Not a gram of unnecessary fat is in between. Gronda stands crystal clear and precise in the glass. The herbal and floral aromas echo gently in the aftertaste.
