Wine description for Brunello di Montalcino Vigneti del Versante DOCG 2019 from Pian Dell'Orino

General information

Colour & appearance

Transparent, bright garnet red with ruby reflections and medium depth of colour - typical of an unadulterated, terroir-influenced Sangiovese without oenological manipulation.

Nose

The aromas are initially restrained before blossoming into fascinating layers: dried cherries, wild strawberries and pomegranate are accompanied by fine notes of rosemary, suede and Tuscan undergrowth. With contact with the air, subtle hints of orange peel, dried roses and a mineral graphite note develop, hinting at the complex soils of the region.

Palate

The true greatness of this wine is revealed on the palate: Tight and precise in structure, with a lively acidity that gives the wine freshness and length. The tannins are fine-grained and already surprisingly accessible without losing their structuring power. The medium body is supported by an impressive depth and complexity, which slowly unfolds and offers a long, mineral-influenced finish. This Brunello epitomises finesse rather than power, precision rather than opulence.

Food pairing suggestions

Ideal for Wild boar ragout with porcini mushrooms, matured pecorino or more classical Tagliata with rocket and parmigiano. The lively acidity structure also harmonises perfectly with Braised rabbit in tomato sauce.

Special features

This Brunello represents a new style focussed on elegance and terroir expression, which stands out pleasantly from the international mainstream. The biodynamic cultivation and minimalist cellar philosophy allow the Sangiovese to develop its full complexity. A wine with great development potential that is already accessible now, but will only fully reveal its true greatness in 5-10 years.
