Wine Description for Bourgogne rouge AOC 2023 from Trapet Père & Fils

Colour & Appearance
Deep ruby red with a luminous purple rim – youthful and vibrant in the glass.
Nose
Remarkably expressive for a simple Bourgogne: sweet cherries and wild raspberries meet blackcurrant and more austere notes of elderberries and rowan berries. These are joined by delicate floral hints of hollyhocks, a touch of vetiver, and nuances of high-percentage cocoa from high-altitude plantations. A nose with surprising depth and complexity.
Palate
Here the true class of this wine reveals itself: the opulent fruitiness of the nose is elegantly reined in on the palate by fine-grained tannins and a ripe acid backbone. The structure is precise, the texture both grippy and juicy. Trapet succeeds in combining fullness with finesse – disciplined, yet never austere.
Finish
Juicy and fruity with invigorating length. The tannins remain present without dominating, lending additional tension to the finale.
Terroir & Origin
The grapes come from three small parcels (75 ares in total) in the vicinity of Gevrey-Chambertin. The well-drained, limestone-rich clay soils give the wine its characteristic minerality and structure – typical of the finest sites in northern Burgundy.
Grape Variety & Vinification
100% Pinot Noir, biodynamically farmed and selectively hand-harvested. Partial whole-bunch fermentation with gentle extraction and slow, spontaneous fermentation. Maturation takes place predominantly in used barriques with only a small proportion of new oak – thus the focus remains on the fruit and the terroir.
Food Pairing Suggestions
Perfect with Coq au Vin, duck breast with cherry sauce, aged Comté, or mushroom risotto. Also an excellent choice with pink-roasted veal fillet or rack of lamb with herb crust.
Special Features
This Bourgogne rouge delivers significantly more than its appellation promises – an overperformer that demonstrates what biodynamic viticulture and the expertise of Domaine Trapet can achieve even at entry level. A true insider tip for Burgundy lovers on a smaller budget.
