Weinbeschreibung für Bourgogne Pinot Noir “Les Champs d’Argent” Vieilles Vignes AOC 2023 von Bruno Clavelier

Character
With this Bourgogne, Bruno Clavelier presents an authentic Pinot Noir that captures the essence of old vines. The appellation vieilles vignes is not a marketing slogan here, but the programme: older vines naturally produce lower yields, but more concentrated, more expressive grapes. The moderate alcohol content of 13% speaks for a wine that emphasises finesse over power - a Burgundian ideal that places elegance and drinking flow in the foreground.
Terroir & origin
As a regional Bourgogne AOC This wine represents the entry category into the Burgundy quality system, but for a winemaker like Clavelier this does not mean arbitrariness. The appellation allows grapes from different parcels of Burgundy, which gives the winemaker the opportunity to compose a harmonious blend. After difficult previous years, the 2023 vintage brought more stable conditions in Burgundy, which is reflected in balanced, fresh wines. The calcareous terroir of the region gives Burgundy Pinot Noir its characteristic minerality and tension.
Grape variety & vinification
Pinot Noir is the undisputed king grape variety of Burgundy and one of the most demanding varieties of all. It demands craftsmanship and restraint from the winemaker - qualities that can be expected from serious Burgundy producers. Old vines bring complexity and depth, while traditional Burgundian vinification focusses on authenticity and terroir expression. The wine is likely to be classically Burgundian in style, with discreet use of wood so as not to mask the fruit.
Food pairing suggestions
This Pinot Noir is a versatile food companion: coq au vin, Duck breast or Grilled salmon harmonise just as well as Mushroom dishes or Medium-aged soft cheese such as Époisses or Camembert. The Burgundian cuisine with its preference for Stews and Terrines offers numerous classic pairings.
