Wine Description for Bourgogne Aligoté AOC 2023 by Bruno Clair

Character
The Bourgogne Aligoté 2023 by Bruno Clair is a wine that embodies the often underestimated nobility of the Aligoté grape with Burgundian precision. With an alcohol content of 13.0% vol. and completely dry vinification, it displays that taut, vibrant freshness that makes good Aligoté wines so irresistible – not a wine for grand gestures, but for attentive drinkers.
Terroir & Origin
Burgundy is the homeland of Aligoté, and the Bourgogne Aligoté AOC encompasses vineyard sites traditionally known for their limestone-influenced, well-drained soils. The vintage 2023 brought warm, dry conditions to Burgundy, resulting in physiologically ripe grapes – a challenge for a variety whose strength lies in its natural acidity structure. In the hands of a meticulous winemaker like Bruno Clair, this tension is preserved.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Aligoté is Burgundy’s second white grape variety – long overshadowed by Chardonnay, today rediscovered by a growing circle of connoisseurs. It yields wines of pronounced minerality, lively acidity and a characteristic, slightly herbal-citric texture. Bruno Clair, one of the most renowned estates of the Côte de Nuits based in Marsannay, practises a meticulously crafted approach: careful vinification, respect for the fruit and the aim of allowing the character of the terroir to speak unfiltered – even in a „simple“ Bourgogne.
Food Pairing Recommendations
The classic companion to Aligoté is and remains Gougères – Burgundy’s warm cheese choux buns, a pairing of simple perfection. Beyond that, this wine harmonises wonderfully with oysters, mussels in white wine sauce, goat’s cheese as well as light fish dishes and vegetable quiches. Its dry, fresh style makes it the ideal aperitif or companion to uncomplicated, honest cuisine.
