Wine information

Les Grèves is the largest Climat in Beaune with 31.33 hectares. It is located in the heart of Beaune. The wines are considered the richest, most structured and also the longest-lived in the appellation. The Moreys have owned their vineyard since 1969, with rows of vines stretching 450 metres up the slope, where the terrain changes from a more sandy soil to one more dominated by gravel. The Pinot Noir vines were replanted partly in 1981 and partly in 1988 from a selection massale. Fermentation of the largely destemmed grapes is done with indigenous yeasts in a combination of neutral barrel and tank. Malolactic fermentation occurs naturally. The new wood content is around 20 %. Sulphur is only added in the last six months in the barrel, and several times with minimal doses, so that the wine never exceeds 35 mg/l in total.

Nose

Thomas Moreys Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru 2019 is a wonderfully floral and finely fruity wine that captivates you from the first moment. It combines violet flowers and red berries with earthy and herbaceous notes. In addition to the fresh and tart aromas, there are also darker, juicy and creamy nuances. The wood seems a bit more present than in the white wines of Morey, but is very fine and elegant.

Palate

On the palate the Beaune-Grèves 1er Cru 2019 very present and very transparent in the mixture of a juicy and crisp red fruit and the fresh acidity. There is a clear youthful energy and minerality, furthermore a structuring present tannin, which in Beaune, however, always turns out a little rounder, and a good tension, which remains until the finish. The wine is already wonderful to drink now, and it has a very good potential.
