Tasting note
Color:
Bright straw yellow, radiant and clear.
Nose:
The nose of the 2018 Riesling Reserve vom Kalkstein from Battenfeld Spanier's Treasure Collection changes constantly like looking through a kaleidoscope. Spicy notes of cereal and malt make up the pithy opening, until tart notes of grapefruit and yellow-fruity nuances emerge. Only the peach skin, more citrus and salty notes and wet chalk take over and outline it as a cool wine that radiates a certain calm and somehow seems to grant you an audience.
Mouth:
On the palate, the grapefruit goes straight to the front, with the oils of the peel and the astringency of the white mesocarp underpinning the sublime fruit. The overall framing is rather tart, which gives it its sexiness: camomile blossom, oyster shells and a cool sea breeze contour it aromatically, the powerful fruit pushes well on the mid-palate. The wine shows a delicate beginning of maturity and has been maturing in the winery's cellar since bottling.
Food pairing suggestions
- Thai pomelo salad (Vegetable & Vegetarian)
- Fried prawns with Chinese celery and pink grapefruit(seafood)
- Sichuan chicken with fried mandarin peel(poultry)
