Wine Description for Barolo Mosconi DOCG 2021 3000ml Double Magnum by Chiara Boschis – E.Pira & Figli

Colour & Appearance
Deep, intense cherry red with remarkably dense, nearly opaque structure – a visual statement that already announces the concentration of this vintage.
Nose
A dark, almost monumental aromatic spectrum unfolds: cassis, blackberries and blueberries dominate, flanked by attached meat notes. Beneath these layer lavender and violets, leather, undergrowth, liquorice, tobacco and a hint of mint – a complex bouquet that combines power with finesse.
Palate
Juicy, firm and vibrant, the Mosconi presents itself on the palate. A delicate floral perfume hovers over enormous pressure, depth and power. Dark fruits meld with tobacco, spices and earthy notes. The substance is impressive, the texture gripping yet characterised by fine-grained tannins. Structural clarity meets elegant depth – a Barolo that articulates its provenance with every sip.
Finish
Long, precise and sustained by lingering spice. The fine-grained tannins provide a lasting, vibrant conclusion with mineral freshness.
Terroir & Origin
From the oldest parcels of the Mosconi vineyard site in Monforte d’Alba, approximately 400 metres above sea level. The calcareous clay-marl with grey colouration, interspersed with siliceous sandstones as well as calcium carbonate and iron, lend this Barolo its characteristic structure and extraordinary ageing potential.
Grape Variety & Vinification
Nebbiolo in the Michet and Lampia variants, harvested in early October 2021. Fermentation in rotating tanks with 14 days of skin contact, malolactic fermentation in steel. Two years of ageing in French oak casks and barriques.
Food Pairing Recommendations
A wine for great moments: Brasato al Barolo, braised ox cheeks, game ragout, aged Parmigiano Reggiano or truffle risotto. The double magnum bottle makes it the ideal companion for festive tables.
Special Features
The 3-litre format guarantees optimal ageing conditions and makes this Mosconi a special collector’s piece from the house of Chiara Boschis, one of the most respected producers of Barolo.
